Roanoke-based artist and illustrator Allen Ingles Palmer studied at the Corcoran in Washington, D.C., then completed his degree at the Pennsylvania School of Industrial Art in Philadelphia. He continued his studies with fellow Virginia artist Walter Biggs who taught at the Art Student League in New York. Palmer exhibited extensively, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. Tragically, Palmer died in a plane crash in 1950 en route to New York with works for an exhibition at Milch Gallery.
